Active corrosion prevention through dehumidification for main cables of suspensionbridges is experimentally analyzed on a full-scale mock-up cable. The effectiveness of thesystem is evaluated based on its ability to both reduce relative humidity to levels below 40% andsubsequently maintain low, stable relative humidity levels within the mock-up specimen exposedto variable environmental and internal cable conditions. The study uses an embedded relativehumidity and temperature monitoring system, as well as pressure and air flow monitoring toprovide a robust image of the dehumidification profile throughout the entire cable.Dehumidification proved effective in creating a dry, isolated cable interior in a number ofenvironments.
