Longitudinal wave load is the dominant factor of spud breaking forlarge cutter suction dredger operating in waves, especially in a swell.Considering the interaction of spud, hull and ladder, a hydrodynamicmodel of the large self-propelled cutter suction dredger “TIAN JING”is built to calculate motion response in waves. The multi-bodyhydrodynamic simulation is carried out in time domain, and theenvironment loads under different working phase are derived usingspectral analysis. The influence of different working condition on spudreaction force is summarized to provide reference for the design ofspud system and flexible spud carrier, equipment selection and workingcapability assessment.
