PECALE: An Environment for Enhancing Personalization and Learner Engagement in an Online Learning Platform

Learning that meets individual needs of the learner and effectively engages learners results in a more satisfying and positive learning experience. However, how to efficiently adhere to individual learners' needs as well as fully engage learners in online learning especially in an environment in which technology and approaches to learning are all in transition still poses a great challenge. In attempt to enhance personalization and learner engagement in online learning environment, this paper presents PECALE - a Personalized and Engaging Context-Aware Learning Environment. The paper specifically highlights the approaches used in PECALE as well as its design and implementation. The results of a trial evaluation of the system are also presented.
