DEVELOPING THE FUTURE SPACE WORKFORCE. THE CASE FOR SOUTH KOREA

Building a future generation of space workforce is one of the key challenges faced by South Korea's space program. It has been projected that in order to implement the space missions that are currently planned, 4,800 skilled workforce are required in the space sector by 2020 - a considerable increase from the current level of 2,000. In recognition of this, the Korean government is launching a number of initiatives to meet the future workforce demand. This includes enlarging the existing effort such as student competitions and research funds for university in support of the young researchers as well as some new initiatives, notably the setting of the Space Workforce Education Center to provide training and education for the next generation of space workforce.
