摘要

The asphalt pavement is the most common type used in Brazil. However, the problems thatexist in new and rehabilitated asphalt pavement involving premature distresses and failures, such as,permanent deformation. This paper describes a laboratory research conducted to determine theperformance properties of overlay layers with asphalt rubber mixtures. The tests were accomplished usingthe RSST-CH (Repeated Shear Test at Constant Height) for new pavements and the Wheel Trackingsimulator for overlays. An identical study was carried out for a conventional mixture used as reference.Rheological asphalts behavior was evaluated through the master curves. Asphalt rubber has been used toproduce mixtures to be applied in pavement overlays subjected to heavy loads and high temperature.Furthermore, the use of rubber from scrap tires in asphalt can minimize environmental impact andmaximize conservation of natural resources. The results shows that asphalt rubber mixtures improved thepermanent deformation resistance for new pavements and overlays. Besides this, the use of the waste tirespresent to be a great alternative to protect of the environment.
