This paper discusses the emergence of Information Centric frameworks to support distributed collaboration in two process contexts: advanced manufacturing and surgical training. The adoption of information centric perspectives is key to the realization of agility in various process domains. Information Centric Engineering (ICE) broadly encompasses three major facets dealing with modeling, simulation and exchange of information. This conceptual triumvirate can be viewed as the foundational blocks for the design of agile collaborative frameworks that enables sharing of cyber and physical resources. These frameworks also help embody Internet-of- Things (IoT) concepts that require seamless data and information exchange using Next Generation networking principles. The role of 3D simulation-based design methods along with Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality based approaches is also discussed for both the process domains. The implementation of these information centric frameworks for these process domains is also elaborated.
