We have demonstrated that PEG44-PPS20 micelles and PEG44-OES5 nanofibers can load both CsA and Dexa allowing controlled drug release at different rate, depending on the different chemical composition and thickness of the nDDS hydrophobic cores. Tunable drug release demonstrates the versatility of our nanomaterials as drug delivery systems for immunomodulatory drugs. These findings can address the current challenges of chronic immunosuppression in islet transplantation in type 1 diabetes.
