摘要

An intelligent speed control (ISC) technology was designed for older drivers following a field study which discovered that older drivers had difficulty maintaining a relatively smooth speed under freeflow traffic conditions and exceeded the speed limit when driving on roads with a low speed limit. This paper examines the relationship between the user perceived workload when driving with the ISC technology and user attitudes towards the system. The results indicate that the ISC systems make driving more relaxed and safer. However the implementation of the system has a significant impact on user perceived workload and user acceptance. Although there are indications that this group of older drivers have retained an indifferent way to their younger counterpart in terms of driving, a driver assistance system with frequent interventions will not be appealing and helpful to either drivers aged over 75 or female older drivers.
