Fluidized Bed Production of Surface Functionalized Powders for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cathodes

Surface functionalized powders were produced using the novel technique of fluidized bed chemical vapor deposition. Test structures of SOFC cathodes were fabricated from coated and uncoated powder samples, using standard screen printing and sintering techniques. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed the surface functionalized powers to outperform uncoated cathode powder, in all cases, in the temperature range of 600 C to 800 C. Fluidized bed chemical vapor deposition is shown to be an effective and economical process for production of high performance SOFC cathode materials.
