Research progress of a W-band 100-Watts extended interaction oscillator

This paper introduces the research progress of a W-band Extended Interaction Oscillator (EIO). The EIO is designed to produce a continuous wave power of over 100 Watts at nearby 95GHz operating frequency, whose operating voltage is 11 kV with a beam current of 0.15 A. Refer to components of the EIO, the electron optics system is designed as a typical Pierce type with permanent magnet structure, and simulation results indicate that the gun has a reasonable cathode loading and a beam-to-tunnel radial fill factor of less than 0.625, and the peak value of longitudinal magnetic field in the interaction region is ~7200Guass. And, the RF system design adopts trapezoidal slow wave structure with dual coupling slots and 24 periods, and the beam-wave interaction of RF system is simulated by CST software and PIC (Particle in Cell) code separately. Meanwhile, the test results of group delay for RF system are compared with the calculation, and the comparison results are basically the same, which meets the design requirement.
