Hemodialysis machines are vital to improve hospitalization outcome and to improve life quality of patients with kidney disease. The current paper focuses on control problems regarding patient-fluid balance control in hemodialysis machines. First, the most relevant fluid balance control solutions of the literature are enumerated and evaluated. Afterwards, two control structures of peristaltic pumps are proposed by using soft computing methods. These pumps do not give a solution to control the transfer volume and (systemic) net fluid removal simultaneously, but they fulfil the basic needs required to insert the controller into a device sent to production.
