In crystalline-Si photovoltaic (PV) modules, a solder ribbon with a Cu core coated with solder is used as a connection with solar cells. Recent studies on the PV modules reported solder ribbon corrosion due to acetic acid generated by hydrolysis of EVA encapsulant. In this study, in order to understand the corrosion of the solder ribbon inside the PV modules, the corrosion of Sn plate and solder ribbon with respect to three kinds of carboxylic acids was investigated. The corrosion of Sn strongly depended on the pH of the aqueous solution. Furthermore, Sn luminescence was confirmed inside the PV modules.
