Rapid Replacement of Timber Approach Trestles of NS Railroad Bridge

Replacement of 1,100 linear feet of timber trestle approach spans for Norfolk Southern Railway’scritical bridge over the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Virginia. Replacementstructure consists of ballasted, single track, prestressed concrete spans ranging in length from 14ft. to 28 ft. Design details, use of precast concrete components, and construction techniquesallowed individual spans to be replaced within a typical track outage of only 6 hours.
