Real-time PCR is the current method for GMO quantification. Known GM samples were tested with different calibrators to check calibrator-dependent differences/consistencies in quantification results. The derived GM contents were compared with the certified value. GM % was consistent with the certified value/standard deviation of the 2 different plasmid DNA calibrators. Factors causing differences in results may be: (1) PCR efficiency, (2) DNA origins and forms, (3) matrix complexity, (4) purity of calibrator, and (5) production process and buffer composition, etc. Using an appropriate calibrator/reference material as a control is important when ensuring accuracy of the analysis while determining GMO content.
