Turbulent Flow Simulations of a Mixture of Perfect Gases

In this work, the finite-volume flow solver QUADFLOW is extended by applying Reynolds-averaging to the equations governing the flow of a mixture of reacting thermally-perfect gases. The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are closed by the Shear Stress Transport turbulence model by Menter to account for the additional terms from the averaging procedure. As an initial step, the effects of turbulence on the species source terms and the species mass diffusion are neglected in this work. To investigate high-temperature effects on the flow and to validate the extensions to QUADFLOW, the flow on a 40° compression corner is computed. In a second test case, gas injection on a scramjet intake is simulated to support the experimental design of the test case. Currently, a new test campaign is designed at the RWTH Aachen University investigating the effect of injecting fuel on the exterior intake compression ramps. The simulations presented in this work are performed analysing various design parameters, including the injection angle and wall temperatures. In addition, the effects of using a thermally-perfect gas mixture model are presented in comparison with a calorically-perfect single component gas model.
