Today a lot of different data is available as a base for active traffic management. Currentlymost of the time only certain amounts of data are combined and used which leads to anincomplete solution. The idea is to develop a Real-time Controlled Traffic Environmental Map(RtTEM) based on a microscopic air pollution map (Traffic Emission Map) and a microscopicnoise map (Traffic Noise Map) that can describe various traffic conditions based on thedetailed simulation of vehicle activity (Microscopic Traffic Model) calibrated with real-timetraffic data on a microscopic traffic network. Overall a Real-Time Weather-MeasurementSystem is implemented. The goal of RtTEM is to provide a full map by combining togetherfactors of location, weather, traffic and emissions relating to different parameters they areinfluenced by. This model, encompassing and connecting all data, will allow traffic engineersand environmental planners to control traffic flow and set measurements in real-time. Thesolutions which are found and actions which are implemented should not only help to regulatetraffic but also to support European Union’s long term-goal of sustainability, being of botheconomical and sustainable significance, for its people and environment.
