The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) will in cooperation with SINTEFdevelop, demonstrate and evaluate a system for automatic and targeted selection of heavyvehicles for inspection, based on cooperative ITS and information from multiple data records.ITS deployment will make it possible to establish new services that allow for more efficientand cost-effective vehicle controls. The system will be evaluated with regards to impacts ontransport industry, road authorities and society. Successful deployment of the system willresult in a more sustainable transport system, in terms of increased efficiency of transport,more equitable conditions of competition for transport industry, more efficient use ofenforcement authorities and socio-economic benefit such as improved traffic safety andreduced pavement deterioration and environmental impacts.
