The (PDADMAC/PSS)_5 capsules with free PSS molecules inside were successfully fabricated. The capsule walls contained roughly balanced ratio of net polyelectrolyte charges and they shrunk drastically above 50°C, accompanying with an increase in wall thickness. These capsules showed a strong spontaneous deposition property for the positively charged DOX regardless of the solution temperature. The accumulation of DOX from its solution could reach up to ~100 times of the feeding concentration, and the apparent interior drug concentration was increased up to ~1000 times higher after the capsules were treated at 80 °C. The encapsulated DOX could be sustained released. The higher incubation temperature induced slower drug release and less released amount.
