It was demonstrated that hMSCs within RGD-alginate matrix enhanced the ability of neighboring endothelial cells to form tube-like structures. Moreover, the RGD-alginate matrices were shown to provide an adequate 3D microenvironment for HUVECs survival, migration and 3D organization. Overall, RGD-modified alginate showed promise results towards angiogenesis enhancement.
