Modification of poplar BCTMP pulp by pectinase was studied. The results showed that the optimal conditions of pectinase treatment were as follows: pectinase dosage 10U/g, pulp consistency 1.0%, initial pH value 4.5, temperature 45 °C and time 60min, through which the best drainage and strength properties of the treated BCTMP pulp were obtained. Compared with the untreated pulp, the beating degree of the treated pulp was decreased by 3.5°SR~5.0°SR, the dynamic drainage time of the treated pulp was reduced by 8.05%~ 9.47%, and the tensile, burst, and tearing indexes of the pulp treated by pectinase were improved by 1.51%, 15.31%, and 26.01% respectively.
