HIGH EFFICIENT N-TYPE AND P-TYPE PERT SOLAR CELLS BY INDUSTRIALLY FEASIBLE PROCESSES

PERT crystalline silicon solar cell is getting popular in recent years due to its bifacial property which collects sunlight more effectively than monofacial solar cells. Inventec started to develop n-type PERT from 2012Q1 and published cell efficiency up to 19.7% in 2013 EUPVSEC. Mass production of n-PERT was started from 2014H2 with 40MW capacity and expanded to 80MW in 2015H2. Through continuous improvement, the average and champion efficiency of Gen1 bifacial solar cells with 3busbar are 20.12% and 20.56% in 2015Q3. Meanwhile, n-type PERT, p-type PERT and p-type PERT+ on 6" commercially available mono-Si wafers were also be studied. The cell structure, IV performance and bifaciality were compared. Surprisingly, the champion efficiency of p-PERT+ is 20.30% and average efficiency is only 0.15% lower than that of n-PERT. However, n-PERT is still the highest among these cell type in terms of both front and rear side cell efficiency. In 2016Q1, 4 busbar design and optimized process were developed and adopted to Inventec Gen2 n-PERT solar cells and the cell efficiency successfully achieved 21.15% of champion and 21.02% in average. Finally, high performance of n-PERT monofacial module achieved 300.7W by using 60 pieces of Inventec Gen2 n-PERT bifacial solar cells and Winaico advanced module technologies.
