Record-breaking efficiencies of crystalline Si (c-Si) solar cell and module using a back-contact heterojunction (BCHJ) technology are reported. Importance of a surface passivation technology for c-Si wafer by amorphous Si layer on improvements of conversion efficiency is demonstrated by both-side-contacted HJ c-Si solar cells. Utilizing our surface passivation technology of c-Si by amorphous Si and metallization technology, we have so far achieved a conversion efficiency of 26.7% in BCHJ c-Si solar cell and 24.4% in module. Energy loss analysis revealed a 27%-efficiency is reachable using our technologies. These results show the advantage of the BCHJ technology and provide a path to access new high-efficiency photovoltaic market for the c-Si solar cell.
