The Frankford Avenue Bridge, built in 1697, is the oldest continuously-used roadwaybridge in the United States. It is a stone masonry arch bridge over Pennypack Creek inPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania. The paper will discuss the inspection, analysis and rehabilitation ofthe bridge, as well as identify the character defining features which make it historic. Sympatheticmeans to reconstruct stone masonry and rebuild the cantilevered sidewalks will be discussed.
