A method for rehabilitating a suspension bridge including a deck (1) and at least two towers (2) supporting two parallel suspension cables from which said deck is suspended via hangers, the ends of each suspension cable being anchored in an anchorage (4). For this purpose, two guy supporting constructions (7) are mounted on each tower, angled guy webs (8) that are symmetrical in pairs relative to said tower and stretched between said constructions and the deck are positioned on either side of each tower in order to replace the two series of hangers located between the tower in question and the adjacent anchorage, as well as the two series of hangers that are symmetrical to the two above-mentioned series relative to the tower, two new suspension cables (11) that are much weaker than the original cables are positioned on the towers, and the central portion of the deck is suspended from said new suspension cables by means of hangers (12).
