Anthropogenic CO_(2) emissions to the atmosphere have generally been recognized as the major contribution to global warming and the associated climate changes. Therefore, several measures have been made to decrease the CO2 emissions; e.g., the European Union strives at substituting 20% of the liquid fuel with biofuels by 2020. In recent years, much effort has been devoted to rendering biofuel production economically competitive with regard to fossil fuels.
