The advantages of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites include excellent corrosion resistance, high specific strength-to-weight and stiffhess-to-weight ratios, as well as outstanding fatigue behavior, which make the material interesting for stay cable systems, especially for future super-long span cable-stayed bridges. However, relative to steel cables, CFRP cables require different design and handling techniques. To anchor CFRP cables for the first cable-stayed bridge in China, a new type of adhesive anchorage was developed. Five cable specimens were tested to validate its anchoring behavior. The results show that the anchorage is reliable and can be applied to the actual CFRP cables. In addition, the methods to manufacture CFRP cables and hang CFRP cables were figured out. Above all, the results of long-term monitoring show that the cables work well.
