Vehicle fuel economy is one of the most important indices of vehicle performance. People start to pay more attention to driver shift behavior in the system of driver-vehicle-traffic environment. Based on fuel economy and its evaluation indices, the basic theory of driver shifting quality is illustrated. In order to research the relationship between driver shift behaviors and fuel consumption characteristics, vehicle road tests are done by Vehicle Versatility Performance Test Platform and the BP neural network evaluation model of driver shift quality is built. Driver shift behaviors and vehicle fuel consumption rules are analyzed, tested, modeled and studied by experiments, and the relationship between driver's behavior characteristics and the fuel economy is revealed. The result can not only save transportation costs, but also regulate the operation of driver behavior.
