In order to develop a generally applicable tire/road noise prediction method, we discuss the applicability of the results from the European popular road-profile analysis to our "Height-Unevenness Method." In our method, the noise in each octave band is accurately predicted from the asperity height unevenness of the road surface obtained from measurements in the actual contact area between the tire and the road surface. This road-profile analysis is theoretically related to the generation mechanism of the tire-vibration noise but is not popular in Europe. They use the "Enveloping procedure," which calculates the road surface envelope considering the contact pressure distribution. This study compares the two types of road-profile analyses. Results of the discussion indicate the possibility of developing a generally usable prediction method.
