The Reform in China's Household Registration Administration

China's household registration administration system has experienced a historic change from free migration to dual household administration and a transition from dual household administration to unified household registration. It is currently confronted with prospect significant changes. The unavoidable drawbacks of the dual household administration have become so evident that it has become a new trend for the unified household administration to replace the dual household administration. Hence, it is necessary to set up a unified household administration system conditioned to China's current situation as well as related policies and measures. The author arguments the following points: (1) The dual household administration system is an important resulting factor of China's dual economic structure. (2) The dual household administration system hinders China's social progress. (3) The unified household registration system has become an inevitable trend to replace the dual household administration system.
