The Influencing Factors of Marital Satisfactory for Chinese Middle-aged Adults

Using the adult-children samples from 2002 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Study (CLHLS), we analyzed the influencing factors of marital satisfactory of middle-aged adults in the age interval 35-65. With the help of multiple logistic regression models, the article indicates that health status, education degree, and marital quality of elderly-parents have significant positive influence on marital satisfactory of Chinese middle-aged adults. But if the factors of education degree have been controlled, the economic factors, such as employment, income, and urban/rural residence, do not have significant influences on marital satisfactory. We did not find the obvious life-cycle effects of marriage on the samples of Chinese families, which means that marital satisfactory of adults will not be influenced by the time length of marriage and the events of oldest-children's leaving home. In addition, there are some significant differences for the factors of marital satisfactory between male and female adults. Males' marital satisfactory declines when they control the family economy power, or they married their wife not through long-term dating but through too short-term dating and immediate married. But such factors are not significant for those female adult interviewers.
