Customer perceived objectionable noise phenomenon is typically referred to as axle noise,gear noise,axle whine,or axle humming noise,modulating moan.The excitation energy from the transfer case is transmitted to vehicle interior sound through the driveshaft to the axle then to the frame and body through the axle mounts.The axle mounting system plays an important role in these issues concerned above.This paper primarily focus on axle mounting attributes study and gives the new concept for axle mount design on design for static loads,pitch angle,and roll-angle optimization.The results show that the load on the mounts is mostly independent of the mounts rates for a three-point mounting system,while four-point mounting system have loads that are functions of the rates as it is a statically indeterminate system.Optimization for pitch angle,and roll-angle are critical considerations in achieving good mounting attributes.
