Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) containingdoxorubicin (DOX), an anticancer drug, was formulatedand characterized for topical application. Stability studieswere also performed and DOX cytotoxicity was studied inmelanoma cell culture (B16F10). The results show thatDOX SLN have an average size of 250 nm with 90% drugentrapment. DOX was stable in lyophilized SLN at leastfor 14 days. Cytotoxicity experiments show that 10ng/mL of DOX kills about 100% of the cells whenincorporated in SLN, which is much higher whencompared to the cytotoxicity of DOX in water solution(20% cell death).
