Drug delivery to the conjunctiva with an eyelid transdermal patch of ketotifen

The aim of this study is to investigate the drugdelivery to the conjunctiva in rabbits and theinhibitory effect on histamine-induced conjunctivaledema in guinea pigs after eyelid transdermaladministration of ketotifen (KT) patch. When the 14CKTpatch was applied on the lower eyelid of rabbits,the radioactivity transferred to the conjunctiva viaeyelid. The pharmacological effect of KT patch usingthe model of guinea pigs was observed dosedependentlyand continually. The results suggest theeyelid transdermal administration is a promisingroute for allergic conjunctivitis.
