Ordered mesoporous carbons can be easily formed using resorcinol and furfural as carbon precursors by employing EISA technique. Resorcinol has double hydroxyl groups, which would facilitate the monomers assemble with PEO chains via hydrogen banding, resulting in the obtained mesoporous carbons have a highly ordered pore size, high surface area and large pore volume. With increasing the ratio of triblock coplolymer to resorcinol, the total pore volume of the obtained mesoporous carbons increase from 0.43 to 0.68 cm~3/g, while the mesostructures transform from 3D cubic structure (1m3m) to 2D hexagonal (p6mm) and then to wormlike disordered structure. The ordered and disordered mesoporous both have a very narrow pore size distribution with mean size of 3.7 nm.
