The different operations influence the desiliting efficiency and capacity in the storage area of reservoir during the flooding period. The Chi-Chi Weir constructed in the Choshui River of Taiwan is used as a study area to estimate desiliting efficiency of reservoir operation. The desiliting efficiency with different operations was estimated by a two-dimensional model for alluvial river with movable bed to simulate flow in the storage area during flooding. The simulated results indicate that a better effect on desiliting can be obtained for the reservoir operation with opened northern gates in cooperation with closing the others.
