High-tech SMEs in a large-scale organizational change program:Key lessons

This study presents key lessons gathered in a large-scale SME-initiative in the Euregion Meuse-Rhine. From 2005until the end of 2007, 650 SMEs active in a wide range of industries from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlandshave participated in this study. The main aim was to improve upon the innovative management capabilities of theparticipating SMEs. Trained consultants facilitated the SMEs to critically assess their internal and externalenvironment together with the strategy and tactics used to cope with this environment. Around 30 high-techcompanies took part in this study. This paper focuses on this group and shows why the process approach ofconsultancy interventions also worked for high-tech companies.
