To improve the solubilization and bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs we have prepared stable colloids of such drugs with high content of an active ingredient by applying the layer-by-layer coating technology to nanoparticles. Such nanoparticles have been generated by ultrasonication of drug suspension. Polymeric coating consisting of alternating layers of differently charged soluble polymers prevented coated drug particles from agglomeration after the ultrasound was removed. The process resulted in stable colloidal drug nanoparticles (100-200 nm) wrapped into thin polymeric coat. Drug content and release properties can be controlled by the polymer type and number of polymeric layers.
