A series of model tests was performed to investigate the load transfer by soil arching in embankment pile systems. In the model tests, the piles were installed below the embankment and isolated caps were placed on the pile head. The results of model tests showed the portion of the embankment loads transferred on pile caps decreases with increasing the interval ratio of pile caps and increases with increasing the height of embankment fills. Also, the higher internal friction angle of embankment fills showed the higher efficiency. Therefore, it is desirable to choose economically and technically both the interval ratio of pile caps and the relative density of embankment fills on soft ground.
