Hollow-core optical fiber for terahertz wave propagation

The possibility of using a hollow-core Bragg fiber with cobweb-structured cladding to obtain low-loss transmission in terahertz (THz) frequency range is proposed and analyzed. Leaky losses of the fiber are analyzed as a function of the structure parameters for hollow-core Bragg fiber with cobweb cladding, such as number of alternating layers, core radius and width of air layer by an asymptotic matrix formalism. An estimate of the transmission losses of such fibers in long-wavelength and short-wavelength range of THz wave is given. The results show that the transmission losses of the hollow-core Bragg fiber with cobweb cladding are far less than those of other fibers for THz wave reported so far in the literature.
