WORLD LARGEST VILLAGE ELECTRIFICATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF RURAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES OF SRI LANKA

The project, “Solar Energy for the Development of Rural Education and Health Infrastructure Facilitiesof Sri Lanka” aims to provide electricity to the remotest and poorest areas of Sri Lanka in order to improve the healthand education standards of the rural population. The project will provide water and electricity to schools and villagehealth centres using solar energy. The results of the feasibility study were reviewed by the respective Provincial andEducation and Health Directors. As the result of the exercise 587 villages were selected, to be served by 1614 solarpower systems. This is in amount so far, the biggest village electrification in the world, made during one project. Theproject was finished one month before scheduled time range of 2 years.
