EFECTIVE LEAN SIX SIGMA DEPOYMENT IN A GLOBAL ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING SERVICES ENVIRONMENT

The Lean Six Sigma quality program has developed into a breakthrough program in the industry. Numerous companies have credited Lean Six Sigma for their successful achievements. It has also been proven in the industry that practicing either Lean or Six Sigma may help achieve partial success, but the fusion of Lean Six Sigma has achieved results more effectively and efficiently. Not every company practicing Lean Six Sigma has a good story to tell, the most frequent cause of failure being the difficulty in the transition phase from theory to practice. There is abundant literature explaining specific details of Lean Six Sigma methodology and tools but only in their isolated forms. Not only these pieces are presented to demonstrate their autonomous powers but also are explained using the generic examples of popcorn or coffee machines. The lack of knowledge of strong associations in the methodology and tools plus affects of various environments on their uses pose great challenges on Lean Six Sigma deployment. This paper details the real challenges and lessons learned during the deployment of Lean Six Sigma in an Electronics Manufacturing Services environment. The paper also provides the robust Lean Six Sigma deployment strategy to overcome the aforementioned challenges.
