Traditional air conditioner most often uses high performance 32-bit RISC microcontroller to implement PM motor sesnorless control.Nevertheless Power Factor Correction (PFC) control cannot be implemented due to limited computational power and lack of advanced algorithm development. International Rectifier recently introduced a new motion control IC, namely IRMCF312, which enables not only sinusoidal PM sensorless control requiring a single DC link shunt register current sensing but also integration of digital PFC function and the 2nd PM fan motor sensorless control.This paper discusses performance benefit of a new control IC based air conditioner system and comparison of outdoor unit inverter system integration against a traditional system.
