The conceptualization of goal orientation in past studies has focused on individual achievement goals. This study broadens the conceptualization of goal orientation to include teamwork goal orientation and investigates the relationship between goal orientations and job involvement. The results show that teamwork goal orientation can be distinguished from learning orientation, performance approach orientation and performance avoidance orientation; and that teamwork goal orientation, learning orientation and performance approach orientation have positive relationships with job involvement. Moreover, teamwork goal orientation provides incremental explanatory value beyond the other three goal orientations in predicting job involvement. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.
