Evaluating State-of-the-Art Treebank-style Parsers forCoh-Metrix and Other Learning Technology Environments

This paper evaluates a series of freelyavailable, state-of-the-art parsers on astandard benchmark as well as withrespect to a set of data relevant formeasuring text cohesion. We outlineadvantages and disadvantages of existingtechnologies and make recommendations.Our performance report usestraditional measures based on a goldstandard as well as novel dimensionsfor parsing evaluation. To our knowledgethis is the first attempt to evaluateparsers across genres and gradelevels for the implementation in learningtechnology.
