This paper argues that local textual inferencescome in three well-defined varieties(entailments, conventional implicatures/presuppositions, and conversationalimplicatures) and one less clearly definedone, generally available world knowledge.Based on this taxonomy, it discusses someof the examples in the PASCAL text suiteand shows that these examples do not fallinto any of them. It proposes to enlarge thetest suite with examples that are more directlyrelated to the inference patterns discussed.
