New equations covering a wide range of oil types aredeveloped to estimate the treating rate and treating temperaturefor Dual Polarity electrostatic desalters and AC Conventionalelectrostatic desalters in Iranian Oil fields. Production of wetcrude had been a growing field problem that affected thequality of produced oil in Iran. Application of right technologyand installation of proper desalting facilities were required tosolve this problem. Therefore it was decided to installelectrostatic desalting plants progressively in Iranian oil fields.By end of 2004 more than 20 plants with a total capacity of 1.3MMSTB/Day of treated crude has been installed. T h eperformance of the majority of these desalting plants have beentested and found satisfactory.This study shows that the Dual Polarity electrostaticdesalters may operate at a minimum crude oil inlettemperature, resulting in extra fuel savings and eliminating theneed for a heating system in the vessel; and the treating rate forDual Polarity electrostatic desalters is more than ACConventional Electrostatic desalters.
