The exponential growth in the internationalcommercial space sector is still limited by therisky nature and long-term return oninvestment of space activities. The risks anddevelopment costs of space-related venturesare indeed often considered too high forindustry and private investors. As anassociated trend, the public space sector findsit more difficult to conduct some activities inhousedue to budget restrictions, and is lookingat different out-sourcing methods. The maindifficulty is to combine efficiently the "publicgood" characteristic of many space activitiesand the profitableness of commercial spaceproducts and services. This paper will presentbriefly some lessons learned from examples ofPublic Private Partnership (PPP) models in thespace sector.
