A longitudinal analysis of the relationship between environmentally friendly modes, weather conditions, and information-telecommunications technology market penetration
Understanding the dynamics of environmentally friendly mode use is very important for defining policies that may curb the use of automobiles and the constantly increasing use of fossil fuel consumption. This requires data from repeated observations of the same persons over time to study longitudinal correlation structures among transport options, social and economic factors, environmental conditions, and vehicles and information and telecommunications technology. Data from the Puget Sound Transportation Panel (PSTP) containing a two-day travel diary from households and their household members, are used in this paper to explore the longitudinal correlation structure among trip making, weather, a variety of information and communication technologies while controlling for person factors such as age, gender, employment, and household factors such as income, availability of private cars, and children.
