A model based on irreversible thermodynamics is presentedfor simulating the compositional variation with depth inpetroleum reservoirs with a vertical temperature gradient. Byassuming that the system is at a stationary state, and that noheat flux exists in an isothermal reservoir, the influence of atemperature gradient can be expressed in terms of partialmolar enthalpies of the present components. Experimentaldata are presented for the compositional variation with depthin two high-pressure gas condensate reservoirs with a verticaltemperature gradient. The observed compositional variationswith depth are higher than in an isothermal reservoir and canbe modeled quite closely using the proposed model.
