Cobalt Platinum alloys are intensively investigated for application in magnetic micro- andnanodevices. The magnetic properties of layers of Cobalt Platinum alloys are mainly related totheir microstructure and crystallographic preferred orientation (P.O.). Electrodeposition ofrelatively thick layers of Cobalt Platinum alloys was carried out from alkaline citrate and glycinesolutions. Tungsten and Zinc were added to improve and control the properties of the depositedlayers. Deposits with strong hcp [00.1] P.O. have perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, those withmixed crystallographic orientations are magnetically isotropic, and those with [11.0] P.O. haveparallel magnetic anisotropy. The effect of Cobalt and Platinum interaction on the ferromagneticbehaviour of the electrodeposited alloys was investigated by means of X-ray PhotoelectronSpectroscopy.
